How to setup custom domain on Blogger Blogspot easily in 6 Steps
Blogger is one of the best free blogging CMS for most users. It’s also the most popular free CMS nowadays. I see that many guys are using Blogger for many purposes, ranging from personal hobbies blogs to simple news websites, or even ecommerce websites. However, with an ecommerce site, you need to spend more efforts as well as customizing more many features on the theme.

1. Introduce
When creating a free blog on Blogger CMS, you will receive a free subdomain belong to the main domain blogspot.com. Example: yourname.blogspot.com. For many people, the domain name is not a big problem because they just use the blog for their personal or unimportant purposes. But others don’t want that, they need a nice name for their online presence such as their real name, their brand or their related online business.
Fortunately, Blogger platform supports users to have their own domain name with a few configs. In this article, I will guide you how to setup custom domain on Blogger CMS with 6 easy steps below
2. Buy a domain name
Having a domain name is a must when you want to setup custom domain on Blogger. If you don’t know what is a domain name, this article will help you: What is a Domain Name? Where should you buy? And much more, you can buy .COM domain just for $0.99/1st yr if it’s the 1st time you open an account at Godaddy. Create a new account at them here
3. Login to Blogger account
After having a domain name, the next step is to login to your Blogger account (login with your Gmail account) and choose the blog you want to add a custom domain. And then, choose Setting -> Basic on the left as the image below
4. Setup a 3rd party URL for your blog
Under “Publishing” section, you will see your blog address. If you want to change to another name, just simply click on the “Edit” text beside and enter the new name. To setup a custom domain name, you need to click on the text “+Setup a 3rd party URL for your blog” right below
5. Enter your custom domain name
Enter your custom domain in the text box and press the “Save” button to continue. The example is my blog www.ecoupon.io
After saving, you will see an error saying that the process hasn’t complete yet. It misses 2 CNAMEs. Then, the next step is to create 2 new CNAMEs records at your domain name registrar.
6. Create CNAMEs records at your domain registrar
Login to your domain registrar where you bought your domain name. Go to the dashboard (or control panel), locate the DNS (Domain Name System) section and create 2 new CNAMEs like the image below
Depending on each registrar, enter “www” in the Name, Label, or Host field and enter “ghs.google.com” in the Destination, Target, or Points To field.
Repeat again to create the second CNAME record, enter your specific value of your blog. Example: “fgveq4yt42d1” in Name, Label, or Host field and the long token like “gv-71ma5byluoamuw.dv.googlehosted.com” in the Destination, Target, or Points To field.
Press the “Save” button to continue. You need to wait about 24 hours to see the result. Sometimes, it may take up to 48 hours to take effect.
7. Setup a naked redirect (Optional)
If you want to change your blog, example from yourblog.com to www.yourblog.com, you need to do more steps below
Login again to your domain name registrar. Go to the dashboard (or control panel) and locate the DNS (Domain Name System) section
Create four A records with values below. These records point to Google IP addresses
- 216.239.32.21
- 216.239.34.21
- 216.239.36.21
- 216.239.38.21
Come back to the Blogger dashboard, choose the blog you want to update. Go to Setting -> Basic again, under Publishing section, click to edit your blog and check on “Redirect yourblog.com to www.yourblog.com” as the image below
